About JMHAuxiliary.com
Purpose
The JMH Auxiliary website – JMHAuxiliary.com - was created to share information of interest and concern to The John Muir Health Auxiliary Board of Directors and the JMH Volunteer Community in Contra Costa County California.
The value of a published online website is that everybody has immediate access to the most current version of information. For example:
If corrections are made to DRAFT minutes of the previous meeting, everyone sees the corrections immediately and can still comment and correct, as necessary.
The Calendar always reflects the most up to date information, as does the Event Schedule.
The Roster is always current.
Contents
Currently the website contains:
1. Auxiliary Calendar.
2. Events schedule for Auxiliary.
3. Agenda of the upcoming Board Meeting.
4. DRAFT Minutes of the most recent Board meeting.

Auxiliary History
In 1959 when John Muir Health Walnut Creek Medical Center (JMH WCMC) Auxiliary got its start, the land had not been purchased, and a group of doctors dreamed about having a medical facility in Ygnacio Valley close to their practices. Several women put forth their efforts to help this fledgling idea by forming thirteen Guilds named for points on the John Muir Trail:
Ahwahnee, Garnet, Glacier, Kaweah, Mariposa, Sierra, Tenaya, Tioga, Tuolumne, Yosemite, Tokopah, Wawona, and Cascade.
The Guilds organized and staged bridge luncheons, fashion shows, lecture series, debutante balls, cocktail parties, and all manner of other creative events to provide the funds to make this community hospital a reality.
Before the Grand Opening, the Guild members were asked to become in-service volunteers, and many took the training to work at the Reception Desk and Escort. On June 16, 1965, everyone was in place, and the doors opened. Today the independent, not-for-profit community hospital (with multiple campuses) serves patients throughout the East Bay.
Members of the Auxiliary manage and staff the Garret Thrift Shop in Walnut Creek, and the Muir Galleria Gift at the JMH WCMC . These two shops plus the annual Golf Tournament, Teddy Bear Quilt Raffles, and the Glacier Guild Speaker luncheons raise funds to purchase state of the art equipment for various Hospital departments, provide community education, and enhance the patient and family experience. The Auxiliary also supports programs such as Admitting and Pediatric toys for children, Comfort Kits for families of Palliative care patients, an ongoing Art (for sale) Exhibit, the Wig Source, Trauma Closet and Student Scholarships.
The Auxiliary has made many large gifts to the JMH WCMC . The largest pledge was $2,500,000 for the circular courtyard, also known as the Rotunda. This pledge was made in 2004 as part of the planning for the Phase IV building, now called the Long Tower. Although this exceptionally large amount of money was scheduled to be paid over a 10-year period, the final payment was made only 7 years later in 2011. This was possible because of energetic and dedicated fund-raising efforts by the Auxiliary. The Rotunda now serves as a beautiful focal point of the Walnut Creek campus.
Here is a partial list of other major recent pledges:
2011 - $240,000 for the Outdoor Dining Area of the new Café Muir
2012 - $1,000,000 towards the Interventional Radiology and Cardiac Catheterization Facility
2017 - $798,000 to the Emergency Department for a portable CT Scanner
2019 - $551,000 to the Pharmacy Department for 14 Anesthesia Pyxis Machines
2020 - $357,000 for 21 Zoom Stretchers
2022 - $1,000,000 towards construction of the Cancer Pavilion in Walnut Creek
2023 - $90,000 towards renovation and expansion of the Birth Center
The Auxiliary enhances JMH WCMC by funding capital improvements and providing many special services to patients; however, it is the energy and generous spirit of the Auxiliary members that enriches not only the Hospital but the entire surrounding community.
